In December 2023, I stole an idea.
Justin Taylor had been sharing marketing jobs with his network every week. (If you work in marketing, his newsletter The Landing Pad is awesome.) I kept thinking… someone should do this for events and experiences.
So I did.
The first post was a handful of open roles I found interesting. The very first one was a VP, Communications Events role at Disney. Which I actually applied for and went through 12 interviews before they went with an internal candidate, but that’s a story for another day. Anyway, I posted new roles every Thursday.
Twenty weeks later, it was still going strong. The lists got longer. People started sending me roles. Then someone messaged to say she’d started a new job she found on the list. 🎉 I was so damn excited!
But also… exhausted! The lists take a lot of effort to put together every week. So I took a long break. And people started asking me: “Where are the job posts?!”
So due to popular demand, I finally brought it back as a LinkedIn newsletter called Experience Wanted. And more than 2,000 people subscribed in 1 week. Which told me two things: there are a lot of us out here, and the list was about to outgrow LinkedIn.
And now we’re here. Experience Wanted has a home of its own on Substack.
Every Thursday, I’ll share interesting roles from across the experience economy. Not just “events jobs.” Producers, creatives, designers, strategists, marketers, operators, programmers. Brand-side roles at museums, sports teams, toy companies, banks, tech orgs, and many more. Places you might not expect people with our skills to land.
A few hopes for this side project of mine:
If you’re looking, I hope you find something worth applying for!
If you’re new to this world, or pivoting into it, I hope it shows you how many doors there are.
And if you’re happily employed, I hope it occasionally surprises you with what’s out there. Careers in this industry rarely go in a straight line… mine certainly didn’t.
How you can help:
Share it with a friend or colleague who’s looking, or who should be.
Send me roles. If you spot a great posting in events and experiences, or you’re hiring for one, send it my way.
Say hello. Reply, comment, introduce yourself. The best part of doing this has been the people it’s connected me with. Seriously.
Every role here is personally picked by me. I’m not affiliated with the companies - so please resist asking for a referral that I certainly can’t offer - and I stick to brand-side roles rather than agencies recruiting.
If you haven’t subscribed yet, please do. It’s free!
This is a big, weird, wonderful industry. Let’s find each other in it.
